CCM and FLoodwood Students Clear Buckthorn Out of School Forest

The Floodwood School Forest committee (Deanie. Davidson, Rebecca Walzak, Zac Holton, Sara Hanson, and Joyce Holmes) received a grant from the Minnesota Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund , as recommended by the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR) to the Minnesota DNR to coordinate conservation corps Minnesota projects that improve school forest outdoor classroom.  Teachers identified trails and areas that needed the most attention.  Prior to the buckthorn removal project, Rebecca Walzak and Zac Holton marked all the trails and areas for burn piles.  Starting Monday  , Ella Taggart , Zach Bodenner , Zee Pavli and Carly Ottery of Conservation Corps of Minnesota and iowa started cutting the buckthorn to clear trails.  On Tuesday, Zach Holton and Ms. Davidson brought their classes to haul away buckthorn.  Come check out the cleared trails.  If you have any questions or are interested in learning more about CCMI please contact them at conservationcorps.org, scf@conservatoncorps.org, or (651)308-9933.
