Letter from Superintendent/Principal

From Dr. Villebrun:

April 3, 2019

Notices for Parent/Teacher Conferences were mailed last week. If you didn’t get a notice, please contact Deb, as she can let you know what day and time your child’s conference is scheduled for. It might be a good idea to double-check your mailing address, if you didn’t get a notice in the mail to make certain we have your address correct. Conferences are scheduled for April 8th and April 11th.

April 9th is the date for our special mail ballot election asking the voters to support the operating referendum for our school. Ballots were mailed out on March 20th. If you didn’t get a ballot in the mail, please contact Lois at (218) 476-2285 ext. 70108. Please make sure to follow the directions carefully, as you do need a witness to fill out their section and sign the signature envelope in order to be accepted. This is required to ensure that all votes casted are by registered voters. The polls will be open from 4PM to 8PM on the April 9th Election Day. If you are concerned about your ballot not getting here in the mail in time, you can drop off your ballot/signature envelope too.

The teachers had a professional development day planned by our leadership team: Ms. Fjeld,

Ms. Lindstrom, Ms. Bartsch, and Ms. Hanson. They planned a “walk and talk” through the school forest and shared what was learned through conversation by writing phrases on the pavement in the parking lot. The teachers have been working on being intentional in their practices, which means all activities and lessons are planned based on what the students need. They are also working on using formative assessments, which means they use short assessments to determine whether or not students are learning what they want them to learn in each lesson. It is through these intentional practices and formative assessments that our students continue to grow.

Ms. Fjeld and Ms. Bartsch were invited to meet with Governor Walz regarding their efforts to support the school in the upcoming referendum by sharing information with the community and getting them involved. I can’t say it enough how wonderful the staff of Floodwood School are!

With the new quarter starting this week, the last nine weeks of the school year will fly by. The high school students have a quarter to bring up their grades. Semester two final grades are a combination of quarter three and four grades. We will have summer school for those students in 7th-12th grade that fail classes this school year. Any student who is in 9th-11th grade who fails a class should seriously consider summer school to recover those graduation credits. Students will learn as they grow, that it is much easier to pass all the classes the first time during the school year rather than take them again during the summer. Watch for more information regarding summer school in May once the schedule has been set.
