Letter from Superintendent/Principal Rae Villebrun

We are in the middle of week 2 of Distance Learning. As we share lessons and information with you, we get better at what we do with the help of families. Your feedback is important and appreciated. We can only get better at what we do with your help. Please let us know when things aren’t working like you thought they should be working or if the work seems to be too much.

There will be no distance learning, no childcare, and no breakfasts/lunches on April 10th and April 13th. These are the days scheduled for Spring Break. Distance learning, childcare, and meals will resume on Tuesday, April 14th.

Homework/Assignments will be delivered every two weeks beginning on April 14th. If your child’s teacher is sending work home, you can expect it to be delivered on April 14th. It is helpful if you have a bin at the end of your driveway (if your road is long/muddy) or near the door for the drivers and paras to put the work. Most of the work assigned will be turned in virtually so you will not need to return the work to the teacher unless they specifically request it be returned.

While it might seem like you are in this distance learning alone, you are not. Don’t hesitate to have your child contact their teacher through phone, email, or virtually. The teachers are available throughout the day. Parents will provide support when their child needs it, but the expectation is for teachers to teach your child how to complete the assignments. Reach out to the teachers! They are here to help you. Most parents are not teachers and chose a career path that didn’t include teaching children all they are expected to learn in school. Homeschooling implies you are your child’s teacher. Your child has a teacher...several teachers, in most cases. Feel free to connect with any of them at any point throughout the day.

Sixth grade to 11th grade will begin registering for classes on April 20th for the 2020-2021 school year. This year, we will be doing registration through Google Forms. Students will be emailed the link to register as well as the Registration Manual to see descriptions of classes. Students who will be in 7th, 8th, and 9th grade have fewer choices in classes. They have required classes that fill their schedules. As they get in 10th, 11th, and 12th grade, the number of required classes are less so they have more opportunity to take electives. An Instant Alert will be made as we get closer to April 20th to remind parents registration will be happening.

The students are missed! The school is an empty space without them. I look forward to the day when school is school and home is the place you go to relax. Stay safe!
