Letter from Superintendent/Principal

From Dr. Villebrun:

Wow! It has been a crazy last few weeks with everything going on. Who can believe it is already March? The end of the quarter is coming in a few weeks along with an in-service day for teachers and no school for students on March 29th. Parent-Teacher conferences dates have been changed to April 8th and 11th.

In April, we will begin our Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments for all students in grades 3-8 in reading and math. Tenth graders will take the reading MCA. Eleventh graders will take the math MCA. The 5th and 8th graders will take the science MCA. These assessments are important to our school and teachers as they show areas of improvement needed when developing lessons. Help us do well by ensuring your children are in school during their tests and are well rested.

There will be an informational meeting on March 19th at 6:00 p.m. in the Media Center to share information regarding the upcoming referendum vote on April 9th. Please watch your mail for a letter regarding the vote. If you didn’t get one, please contact Lois at number listed above. Letters were mailed to all registered voters and property tax owners in the school district. The ballots will be mailed on March 20th.

The students in the high school have been placing stickers around the school with “Bober Time” on them. After interviewing several students, I have learned this phrase means partying, drugs, and alcohol. I have shared with the students who have been caught placing them on school property or have them placed on books, phones, lockers, etc. to remove the sticker and if they are caught with the sticker or placing a sticker on school property, they could be placed in In School Suspension. Not only is placing the stickers on school property considered vandalism, they also go against our policy of distributing material in school that is not school related. These stickers are worrisome because they represent activities that can cause students harm and have become a disruption to the learning of students. If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

I would like to congratulate our basketball teams on successful seasons. I appreciate how they have represented our school in a positive manner and have worked to keep their grades up in order to play. Playing on a sports team is a way for students to build confidence, practice life skills, and improve their grades. If your child is interested in sports, but hasn’t yet played on a team, encourage them to talk with Mr. Bartsch. As our Activities Director, he does an amazing job of encouraging and supporting the students.

Mark your calendars for March 28th. The African Drum and Dance group will be performing in the large gym at 1:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend. I have seen their performance at another school and they are amazing to watch. You won’t want to miss the performance.

Kindergarten Round Up with Ms. Bartsch will be held on the morning of April 12th. If you have a child who is Kindergarten age (turning five years old before 9/1/19), please call Ms. Bartsch at the number above or jbartsch@isd698.org for more information. Information will also be posted on the website and Facebook.
