Letter from Superintendent/Principal

Congratulations to our student athletes who had successful seasons promoting their ability and their school! They work hard during their season and have many expectations placed on them whether it is on the field, on the court, or in the classroom.

The end of the quarter is nearing. This means we are looking at our data. One of the data points we looked at are the number of times students are getting to class late. Based on the data, a plan has been put in place to help students want to get to class on time. Students who have been tardy to their classes 10 or more times in a semester will be required to make up the time after school. How does this look? Student A has been tardy 11 times. Student A will be required to stay after school for 30 minutes. If Student A is tardy a 12th time, he/she will be required to stay after school for 30 minutes. If tardiness continues to be a problem, parents will be invited to the school to help develop a plan that ensures their child get to class on time.  Absences and tardies are available through Parent Portal. If you need access, please contact Lois.

Social Media and students being mean has recently become more concerning. Please be aware of what your children are posting by monitoring their social media accounts. Having access to your child’s usernames and passwords is also a good way to monitor what they are sharing. Another helpful tip is to talk with your child about how would grandma/grandpa, or another significant adult, respond if they saw what was being shared on social media. Keeping all kids safe is important. Kids saying things on social media can have harmful effects at the time it is said and well into the future.

The teachers and staff have a Professional Development day on November 11th so the students will not be in school. One of the topics for the day is the harmful effects of vaping. A representative from the American Lung Association will be here to present to our staff. There has been an increase in the student use of vaping devices. Please talk to your child about vaping. Tobacco is illegal for minors. Students caught with vaping devices will be suspended from school and will get a citation from the police. If we stay actively involved with what the children are doing, we can make a difference.

Conferences will be held November 19th and 21st. You will receive an invitation in the mail. If the time doesn’t work for you, please contact your child’s teacher. We look forward to sharing the wonderful things your children are learning.

If your student is struggling, we have many options for support. There are amazing teachers, counselors, and other staff members in the building who want your child to be successful. If something isn’t working, please let us know so we can help.
