COVID-19 Update 10/1/2020

Floodwood School will remain in the current learning plan. The numbers have increased, but the impact has not been felt in our school.

  • Greater St. Louis County 14.74 (up from 11.37)
  • Duluth 22.47 (expected to go up next week due to mass testing)
  • All County Schools 19.38
  • Itasca County 22.3
  • The state of Minnesota has seen a steady incline in 20-24 years old.  It is now the largest group testing positive which has changed from the older population earlier on.  Community exposure with no known contact with confirmed COVID-19 is the most common group.
  • Public Health reports more hesitancy for people to share who they have been with or where they have been and are encouraging honesty to be able to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
  • Grand Rapids had a mass screening event last Wednesday, September 23rd.  They tested 907 people resulting in 15 positive cases.  Most of the people did have symptoms.  12 of the samples were not viable.  They are seeing an increase in the positivity percentage rate.
  • 1st Call for Help 211 reported a 30% increase in calls and intensity ranging from anxiety, worry, depression, complex parenting issues, and just tired of current coping mechanisms.
  • Parents, staff, and students have been excellent at staying home when sick which has helped keep common colds and strep out of the schools, in addition to COVID-19.
  • Scenic Rivers clinic reports a few strep throat cases but no COVID-19 cases that involve the Floodwood School, but did not specify if there were any cases in the community.  St. Louis County reports zip code 55736 to have between 1-5 cases.  More on stats here.

We are asking for your continued help in keeping our faculty and students safe during this 2020-2021 school year as we work to provide quality education to our students while adhering to our Safe Learning Plan in efforts to keep the safety and well-being of each individual entering our school as our top priority.

If you or any member of your household is being tested for COVID-19 because symptoms of the COVID-19 infection are present, each member of your family must stay home until the test results are known.  This includes children of the household staying home from school and extracurricular activities.

If someone in the household is being tested for COVID-19, but does not have symptoms of the COVID-19 infection, children may attend school before the test results are known.  Examples of this include: healthcare workers who are being tested through their employer as a precaution given their job requirements or someone being tested for an upcoming procedure as a precaution.

We want to again thank you all for your continued support as we work to make this unforgettable year as safe and fun as possible.
