Message from Superintendent

Welcome back to our 1st In-Person day of school since October! Since we are a smaller school, it might not look so different from our Hybrid days. The difference comes in that our rooms are no longer held to the 50% capacity that the Hybrid learning model dictates. We have had several classes that we had to separate due to the 50% capacity that will no longer be separated. We will continue to separate at lunch since the students don’t wear masks while eating.

Seniors are getting ready for graduation! Caps and gowns are being ordered. They are working on the class video for graduation. Thoughts about who will be their keynote speaker are in motion. We are not sure what the graduation ceremony will look like, but we know that whatever the future holds, the group is ready for it.

Homecoming is being held this week. The students are excited about voting for the King and Queen. The dress up days are fun for everyone, even the teachers. It’s nice to see the students in the building celebrating being a student. We are still very aware of COVID and the impact it has had on learning, but we try to offer as many typical activities as we can.

The elementary classes are celebrating I Love to Read week. The teachers do a phenomenal job of planning and organizing ways to celebrate reading. One of their days celebrates Fox in Sox with Crazy Sock Day! I plan on getting into the classrooms and reading my new favorite book, “We Don’t Eat our Classmates,” by Ryan T. Higgins. It is a fun book that makes you laugh and think about how to be a good friend.

The high school band concert will be recorded and available on our district website/Facebook on March 18th. The annual Grandparents’ Day and Science Fair will also release a video recording at the end of March.

The School Board will be working on a new Strategic Plan. Our first session with the consultant will be March 15th during the working session. All community members are invited to participate. If you are interested in being part of the first conversation, please contact Lois so she can add your name to the list and send a link to participate virtually. In person is also acceptable, but we will need to limit the number of people in the room. There is no limit to virtual participation. There will be three other planning sessions.

We celebrated School Board Appreciation week and Bus Driver Appreciation week the last week in February. Our school would not run as smoothly as it does without the work of the school board and our bus drivers. The work they do is so appreciated. Floodwood School District is fortunate to have amazing people who support the students and ensure they are learning, engaged, safe, and enjoy school.

Who can believe we are already at the mid quarter of the 3rd quarter! Watch for information regarding accessing your child’s midterm report. The end of the quarter will be March 31st. Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held April 13th and 15th through a virtual platform. School will not be in session from April 1st to April 6th for Spring Break and Teacher Inservice.

Enjoy the beautiful weather! Spring is on its way.

Sincerely,

Dr. Rae Villebrun
