We need your input
Dear Parents/Guardians, As you may have heard, Governor Walz gave school districts the option to choose how they would open in the fall. He gave us guidelines to help us make a good decision. Based on the guidelines, Floodwood School District will open with everyone in the building. The district has been working on the three plans (in-person with everyone in the building, distance learning for everyone, and a hybrid model of in-person and distance learning) since the middle of July. The three plans were discussed and approved at the school board meeting on July 27th. The district is ready to implement each plan depending on changes in the number of COVID-19 cases in Saint Louis County. At this point in time, we will have all students and staff in the building. However, it is an option for your family to choose Distance Learning rather than coming into the building. As you read through the Restart Blueprint (link: https://5il.co/j57d ), you will find a comprehensive school plan. It will answer some of your questions. I am planning on a meeting on August 11th at 4:00 p.m. in the media center to address questions not answered in the Restart Blueprint. I will offer a virtual option to attend the meeting for those not comfortable with coming into the building. A pre-registration form will be emailed and available on social media to help us plan. Please complete the form by August 10th. If you have questions, but aren't able to attend the meeting, please email your questions to attendance@isd698.org. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to plan and organize for the start of the school year! IMPORTANT COMMUNITY SURVEY ON DISTRICT OPERATIONS IS DUE FRIDAY, JUNE 5TH! District Residents Asked to Provide Feedback The Floodwood School District reached out to all District residents recently to gather input regarding District operations with a community-wide survey. The District is forecasting a budget shortfall averaging more than $575,000 in each of the next 10 years and will need to go to referendum to increase revenue to address this need. The School Board recognizes any potential referendum must reflect the priorities of taxpayers. Therefore, the district is urging all residents to participate in this important district-wide effort as they prepare to make important decisions about the operations of the District. Over the past 5 years the District has made significant reductions to balance the budget. However, they are concerned what additional cuts will mean to educating our students, retaining quality staff and maintaining facilities. To assist with data gathering efforts, the School Board is working with School Perceptions LLC, an independent firm with expertise in conducting school district surveys. All survey data is returned to School Perceptions to ensure respondent anonymity. Every household should have received a paper 8-page survey in their mail already. Residents can either complete the paper survey and mail it back to School Perceptions in the envelope provided or log on to the website listed on the survey and take the survey online. Residents have until June 5th to complete the survey. In the event a residence does not receive a survey, they can simply call the District office at 218-476-2285 ext. 70108 or email attendance@isd698.org for assistance. “Our schools are a critical part of our community,” shares Dr. Rae Villebrun, the District’s Superintendent and Principal, “as we make these decisions about our District, the voice of every resident is critical to this process.”
